Four of Hickory Motor Speedway's NASCAR sanctioned divisions arrived at the track Saturday for an eventful evening of racing at the Birthplace of the NASCAR Stars. Drivers in the Bojangles' Late Model, Gold King Limited Late Model, Street Stock and Super Truck divisions made their way onto the historic racing surface for a chance to pick up a win with drivers Josh Berry, Dylon Wilson, Kevin Townsend and Spencer Boyd taking home the top prize. A new race winner was crowned during the 50-lap Bojangles' Late Model Feature. The No. 88 of Josh Berry brought the field to the green flag, but surrendered the top position to the No. 75 of Landon Huffman within the first 10 laps. Berry regained the lead on lap 23, bringing the No. 9 of William Byron with him to settle into second. Berry collected his first win of the 2014 season, leaving Byron, Huffman the No. 00 of Shane Lee and the No. 7 of Ashley Huffman to complete the top five.
The No.18 of Casey Pierce earned the pole position for the start of the Gold King Limited Late Model event and paced the field for the majority of the caution filled event. Pierce was able to fight of the competition during restarts following caution periods on laps one, seven and 10 and remained out front until lap 26 when the No. 1 of Dylon Wilson took over the top spot. Wilson picked up the win with Pierce, the No. 50 of Ross Dalton, No. 77 of Travis Byrd and No. 7 of Taylor Stricklin making up the top five.
The Street Stock division made their way onto the track for a 30-lap feature with the No. 10 of Kevin Townsend pacing the field. Townsend remained out front and held off the competition during restarts following caution periods on lap 11 and 26. Townsend went on to lead all 30 laps, taking the checkered flag in the first position bringing along the No. 16 of Carroll McKinney, No. 03 of Kevin Eby, No. 18 of Cody DeMarmels and No. 64 of Marshall Sutton completed the top five.
Spencer Boyd, driver of the No. 9 entry in the Super Truck division put on a dominating performance in the 35-lap feature. Starting from the pole position, Boyd went on to lead the competition for the full event grabbing the checkered flag with the No. 9 of Lee Queen, the No. 13 of Dakota Slagle, the No. 7 of Whitney Lail and the No. 77 of Tal Davidson rounded out the top five.
The NASCAR Whelen All-American Series will take a break next week following up with Round 2 of the Paramount Kia Big 10 Racing Challenge on March 29th, allowing the KOMA Unwind Modified Madness Series an opportunity to take on the World's Most Famous Short Track this week. Tickets for this special event are just 15.00 for adults Grandstands open at 5 p.m., with racing scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
