Evergreen Speedway in Monroe, Washington celebrating its 60th Anniversary in 2014 recently announced that their premier Super Late Model race, the Third Annual Summer Showdown on June 27 – 28 has an unprecedented purse. $20,000.00 will be awarded to the winner of the 200-lap Summer Showdown on the BIG 5/8-mile paved oval. It is the biggest payday in the history of Super Late Model racing in the Northwest - over $100,000 in prize money. The race is expected to draw cars not only from the West, but all over the country. There has been keen interest for this record setting race on the BIG track by drivers from all over the country. The Summer Showdown is expected to draw the most Super Late Models in the 60-year history of Evergreen Speedway. There are two drivers that will definitely be there, last year’s winner Jay Sauls and the inaugural winner Pete Harding. Harding won $10,000.00 and Sauls took home a record $12,000.00.
This year’s format for the Summer Showdown has changed a bit with Thursday June 26 being an open practice and not mandatory for Summer Showdown cars to attend.
Friday June 27 practice for Summer Showdown, Street Stocks and Mini-Stocks will begin at 1pm. Qualifying begins at 4:30pm. Opening ceremonies begin at 6:30pm followed by 30-lap mains for Mini-Stocks and Street Stocks on the BIG track. The 25-lap Summer Showdown Qualifying Heats will follow. The top 24 starting positions in Saturday’s Summer Showdown 200 will come from the top spots in the Qualifying Heats. 25-28 will be the fastest 4 by time who did not qualify through heat races. The remaining spots of the 32 car Summer Showdown 200 will come from Saturday’s LCQ.
Saturday’s June 28 schedule starts with practice for Summer Showdown SLM and the visiting Pro 4 Alliance Series from 11am to 2pm. Pro 4 qualifying is at 2:30pm. The 50-lap LCQ goes off at 4pm with the 40-lap Pro 4 race at 5pm. Opening ceremonies are at 6:30pm followed by the 200-lap Third Annual Summer Showdown.
As it was last year the yellow flag laps will be counted and if there is an expected long delay there will be a red flag. There will be a break at or around lap 100. The break will be 7 minutes for cars to be fueled and tired for the final 100.
The Last Chance Qualifier race has a new payout with the top four having a chance to transfer to the Summer Showdown 200 and receive $600 in addition to your finishing position in the 200. Or take $2,000 and not transfer if you are the LCQ winner.
