State Park Speedway kicks off the 2014 season this Saturday when the ARCA Midwest Tour comes to town.  A premiere Super Late Model series, the Midwest Tour highlights the day’s events with a 125-lap feature event with the ARCA Touring Stars and stand-out local talent.

“This is always a great way to start our year,” says State Park Speedway Owner Scott Wimmer, “Everyone is itching for racing action and to start out with a big show gets fans and drivers really excited to get the season underway.”

This marks the third straight year the Midwest Tour travels to State Park Speedway for opening weekend and so far we’ve had two different winners.  First it was local driver, Mark Mackesy, before 2013 ARCA Midwest Tour Champion Dan Fredrickson drove to River Valley Bank Victory Lane two years in a row.  “That’s what is so great about this series and opening the year this way,” says State Park Speedway Ron Wimmer, “Any year it could be a Mark Mackesy who ends up in Victory Lane or one of the Tour regulars and each year it comes down to the final laps.  It gives the fans a chance to root for their local drivers, but also see great racing talent from across the Midwest.”

ARCA Midwest Tour Vice President Steve Einhaus says this is one of the events that is circled on his calendar every year.  “State Park Speedway is one of the tracks on our schedule where you are afraid to leave your seat,” says Einhaus, “Often times I don't get to see the whole race but at this track, I take the time to watch every lap.  There is something about SPS that has produced some of the best races we have ever held in the series with the locals being so competitive.”

Along with the Super Late Models all support divisions begin their 2014 journey as well.  Fans will see the Budweiser/Fabiano Brother Limited Late Models, Marathon Parts City Pure Stocks, Snap-On Mini-Mods, Green Mill Mini-Stocks presented by Motors Service and Supply and Kreagaer Insurance Bandoleros.

Fan gates open at 2pm, Fred Mueller qualifying begins at 4pm, a Midwest Tour autograph session will be held at 5pm and racing begins at 6pm.  Please check out stateparkspeedway.com for more information and find us on Facebook at facebook.com/stateparkspeedway.
